Hard Boiled (1992)

I prefer both The Killer and Bullet In The Head but it's obvious why this one broke through where those earlier ones didn't.
The soft focus melodrama takes a safe back-seat to the technically audacious action scenes. In fact, the film is just the barest amount of connective tissue between the three tentpole action sequences (tea house, docks, hospital). None of it makes sense if you stop to think about it for a second but luckily there's no time for thinking. We an old 35mm print with original slightly ropey subtitles but that didn't matter one bit.
